Henry Hester Johns, Jr. was born in Waco, TX June 10, 1916 and passed away on December 10, 2007, Dallas, TX.

Dr. Johns graduated from Sunset High School in 1935. He attended SMU and graduated with a B.A. in 1939 and in 1943 received his M.A. He studied at The University of Mexico, The University of Havana and The University of Madrid. He received his PhD from the International University in Saltillo, Mexico.

His teaching career began in Lone Oak, TX in 1939 teaching English and Spanish unitl 1941. He taught English and Spanish in Reinhardt in 1941-1942 and taught Spanish at SMU from 1941-1954

Dr. Johns transferred to the Dallas I.S.D. in 1942. From 1942-1944 he taught Spanish at J.L. Long Jr. High. He transferred to Sunset High School in 1944 teaching Spanish and French until 1960. He was the voice of the Sunset Bison at homecoming pep rallies from 1952-2006.

In 1960, Dr. Johns went on to teach Spanish for D.I.S.D. on KERA TV. After leaving KERA TV in 1969, he became Supervisor of Foreign Languages for D.I.S.D. until his retirement.

He loved speaking foreign languages, classical violin, oil painting, yoga and traveling.

Dr. Johns had a love for classical music and played violin for the Oak Cliff Symphony Orchestra as Concert Master. He played in the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra for the past 15 years, playing his last concert on October 13, 2007.
